Training for Tomorrow: Addressing Future Demand for Skilled Tradespeople

In this page, we introduce a study that will investigate how reducing emissions will influence demand for skilled tradespeople in construction and how education and training programs can prepare to meet this demand. This will allow us to develop recommendations for training providers to be flexible in the face of shifting industry needs and ensure a steady supply of skilled workers.

Why are skilled trades important to reducing emissions? How will different emissions scenarios affect demand for skilled workers? Are there skill needs that are common to a range of emissions scenarios? Given the construction sector’s current labour shortage, how can training and education providers fill the skills gap and develop the workers Canada needs?
